One of the perks of being a fanzine editor is that occasionally someone e-mails you and offers to send you free stuff. Not that it's happened very often but it does. Occasionally. Shoggoth of the Roof is one of those rare occasions, and I'm very glad that the H.P. Lovecraft Historical Society sent me the CD.
It starts innocently with a baroque organ opening and then quickly descends into madness. Madness I tell you! The HPLHS have hijacked Fiddler on the Roof for their own evil ends. Not that I knew that, my wife had to point out they had ripped off Topol's finest hour.
The album quickly moves through the tracks Tentacles, Arkham Dunwich, Byakhee Byakhee, Shoggoth Prayer, If I Were A Deep One, To Life, The Nightmare, Victim of Victims, Very Far From the Home I Love, Do You Fear Me?, and Miskatonic. In my opinion the quality of the pastiche shows through on tracks Tentacles, Shoggoth Prayer, and If I Were a Deep One
The production qualities of the CD are superb, and sound very professional, something the HPLHS must be congratulated on. The artists' performances are also bang on, embracing the insanity of the production. I can't recommend this CD highly enough. Please send me the A Very Scary Solstice CD nest HPLHS!
